The Booker Prize 2025 Longlist Announced

The Booker Prize 2025 longlist has been revealed today, featuring 13 books chosen from 153 submissions. The selection has been praised as one of the most diverse in recent years, with authors from nine different nationalities and nine appearing on the longlist for the first time.

Among the longlisted writers is Kiran Desai, who won the Booker Prize in 2006 with The Inheritance of Loss and now returns with The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny. The list also includes debut works such as Claire Adam’s Love Forms and Maria Reva’s Endling.

The stories traverse a wide range of settings and voices — from India and Malaysia to Ukraine and the UK — exploring themes of family, migration, love, and resilience.

The Judging Panel

The 2025 panel is chaired by [Chair’s name, if known], alongside actor and producer Sarah Jessica Parker, who recused herself from discussions about Love Forms due to a previous professional connection with its author. The panel highlighted the “stylistic range and imaginative ambition” of this year’s submissions.

Key Dates

  • The shortlist of six books will be announced on 23 September 2025 at the Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre, London — the first time the shortlist has been revealed at a public event.

  • The winner of the 2025 Booker Prize will be named on 10 November 2025 at a ceremony at Old Billingsgate, London. The winning author will receive £50,000 and join the ranks of some of literature’s most celebrated names.

International Booker Prize 2025

Earlier this year, the International Booker Prize 2025 was awarded to Heart Lamp: Selected Stories by Banu Mushtaq, translated by Deepa Bhasthi. It is the first time a work translated from Kannada — and the first short story collection — has won the prize, marking a historic moment in the prize’s history.
